An Exact Procedure for the Resource-Constrained Weighted Earliness-Tardiness Project Scheduling Problem

چکیده
In this paper we study the resource-constrained project scheduling problem with weighted earliness-tardiness penalty costs. Project activities are assumed to have a known deterministic due date, a unit earliness as well as a unit tardiness penalty cost and constant renewable resource requirements. The objective is to schedule the activities in order to minimize the total weighted earliness-tardiness penalty cost of the project subject to the finish-start precedence constraints and the constant renewable resource availability constraints. With these features the problem becomes highly attractive in just-in-time environments. We introduce a depth-first branch-and-bound algorithm which makes use of extra precedence relations to resolve resource conflicts and relies on a fast recursive search algorithm for the unconstrained weighted earliness-tardiness problem to compute lower bounds. The procedure has been coded in Visual C++, version 4.0 under Windows NT and has been validated on a randomly generated problem set.

The preemptive resource-constrained project scheduling problem subject to due dates and preemption penalties: An integer programming approach
Extensive research has been devoted to resource constrained project scheduling problem. However, little attention has been paid to problems where a certain time penalty must be incurred if activity preemption is allowed. In this paper, we consider the project scheduling problem of minimizing the total cost subject to resource constraints, earliness-tardiness penalties and preemption penalties, ...
متن کاملA hybrid GRASP algorithm for minimizing total weighted resource tardiness penalty costs in scheduling of project networks
In this paper, we consider scheduling of project networks under minimization of total weighted resource tardiness penalty costs. In this problem, we assume constrained resources are renewable and limited to very costly machines and tools which are also used in other projects and are not accessible in all periods of time of a project. In other words, there is a dictated ready date as well as a d...
متن کاملA Scatter Search Algorithm for the RCPSP with Discounted Weighted Earliness-Tardiness Costs
In this paper, we study a resource-constrained project scheduling problem in which a set of project activities have due dates. If the finish time of each one of these activities is not equal to its due date, an earliness or a tardiness cost exists for each tardy or early period. The objective is to minimize the sum of discounted weighted earliness-tardiness penalty costs of these activities. Sc...
متن کاملA Bi-objective Pre-emption Multi-mode Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem with due Dates in the Activities
In this paper, a novel mathematical model for a preemption multi-mode multi-objective resource-constrained project scheduling problem with distinct due dates and positive and negative cash flows is presented. Although optimization of bi-objective problems with due dates is an essential feature of real projects, little effort has been made in studying the P-MMRCPSP while due dates are included i...
متن کاملDynamic Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem with Weighted Earliness/Tardiness Costs
In this study, a conceptual framework is given for the dynamic multi-project scheduling problem with weighted earliness/tardiness costs (DRCMPSPWET) and a mathematical programming formulation of the problem is provided. In DRCMPSPWET, a project arrives on top of an existing project portfolio and a due date has to be quoted for the new project while keeping the costs related to changes in the sc...
